Axminster Craft AC405SS 405mm Scroll Saw

Great saw, cuts perfectly, after some practice lol, as in other reviews the pinless blade tension Allen screw got stripped and had to file the outside to use a shifting spanner to get it un tightened, this screw has to be tight or it parts company with the blade while cutting, gave me a fright, just needs harder better quality Allen screws to overcome the problem, that said I'm pleased with saw.

Love this! My first scroll saw so I’m not a seasoned expert, but I looked at loads and read stacks of reviews etc. And I’m very happy with this saw.I have bolted it to a metal stand with wooden top. I applied a layer of thick cork tiles to the top to reduce vibration. The saw seems to work well.On the advice of others I used finishing wax to improve the working surface and totally agree that this is a great solution to the initially slightly rough surface.Haven’t had this very long but I’m happy to recommend it based on my experience with it so far.

Using a scroll saw takes practice. I have now used the saw regularly over the past month to saw patterns in MDF (up to 12 mm layered) and boxwood (up to 6 mm) and pine (up to 6 mm). I have the used the same blade throughout - no breakages. The saw has performed well and for small pieces I have learned to use a stabiliser to assist in holding the workpiece securely. Vibration was minimal as I had used 5 mm rubber blocks under the bolts as recommended. Static dust does build up on the perspex blade guard but can be cleaned with a moist cloth. All in all an extremely satisfied customer.

A well put together machine that works well but is let down by a couple of issues. The pinless clamps are very poor. the hex bolts strip with the slightest pressure and the clamps do not hold the blades securely. I am trying to find some better pinless clamps that do the job. Forced to use pinned blades until then.

Excellent service and the scroller works very well

On first inspection this is a very nice machine and initially no problems. It came with 2 pinned blades which are fine . I also received a pack of pinless ones which require nipping up in the jaws to get them to grip successfully and not slip but despite going very softly on the hex M16 to get it to grip the blade,the hex key spun and rounded out the internal faces and the tightening bolt had to be removed with pliers. On inspection the hex M16 bolt construction is soft and a weak point and wouldn't last 5 minutes. Fortunately my son works in an engineering company and will replace mine with military grade proper replacement bolts.It's a shame as cheaping out on quality fixings let's this machine down.
