How to Play Chess for Kids: Simple Strategies to Win

I bought this book to review it before giving it to one of my grandchildren. I was so impressed with the teaching style, I purchased another for a 9-10 year old grandchild in Virginia today as a follow on present from the Chess set I made for her. She will need to use the chess set and the book together for a better understanding. I am 71 years old, but did not learn to play Chess until I was in the Navy aboard ships in the early 1970s. I like this book compared to over 10 other chess books I bought for my children and other older grandchildren since it will be easier for them to understand in a fun way. Apparently her school chess club will not accept her until she learns how to play.

We showed our kids how to play chess, but this book has given them even more ideas and better understanding of how to play. Three of our kids have read it and discussed it together. So now we all play chess.

Lots of pictures and diagrams that go through all of the introductory steps for kids in a fun way.

Love the book! I am still working through it, I am trying to beat my 8 year old grandson who is better than me and I'm trying to teach him the legal game and rules of chess. We have both learned so much so far. It's a journey becoming a good player. but this book is helping us on the pathway. I would recommend

My friend and I are in our 70s and decided to learn chess. I got this book for kids thinking it would be easy to understand. I was right. Chess has been easy to learn, and we are having lots of fun.

Helpful for teaching kids!

It’s probably a good book but I’m not smart enough to understand it. Had to get my Chess teach to help.

This is a great book that will introduce the game of chess to kids! Even grownups can use it to brush up on their game! Checkmate!
