Bbc Sessions

If you're a fan and you don't have this - then you're missing out as it contains many songs that were never studio-recorded and officially released. The sound quality is not the best (look at the age of the recording and HOW they were made though - also, the debut album 'Are You Experienced' is not sonic masterpiece; either in its UK or US variant; but we love it all the same...) and it's a pity that some of those fake-stereo mixes got on here again (they were originally on the first release of tracks from this session called 'Radio One') but that's not the end of the world and only really makes much of a difference on headphones. I'd say this is worth owning even if it contained only one track - the version of The Burning Of The Midnight Lamp on here is THAT good (in my opinion) and is in danger of making the stereo album version obselete!

Outstandingly good almost-live session material. I always found the studio albums uneven. I particularly enjoy the blues covers. Only possible gripe is the TV stuff is already over-exposed. The radio sessions are the gold here. Whoever mastered the old tapes for CD did a very good job.

It has often been said that ` any band can sound good in the studio` and I think its true especially if the material is good. The Jimi Hendrix Experience are just cooking! and all the takes sound so fresh and warm the band have been captured in the raw and bloody incredible it is, even covers come to life, try Hound dog when Jimi says fetch daddys slippers! woofs and barking noises also in the background, this recording proves to the public that there are three very special musicians in this band, not just Hendrix and two backers! If you own their 1st four studio albums then this is the only other disc you`ll ever really need.. Brilliant..Some might say a live album could be added to a collection . Band of gypsies for instance different personell but Jimi on full throttle!

Sound

This was remarkable live music for its time . Anyone who wasn't there won't grasp that , now .They will hear the limitations and repetitive structures of the playing . But back then it was phenomenal . I'd rather recommend the electric extremes of "Electric Ladyland" and the attack of the first L.P. ("3rd Stone from the Sun" for example).What you get here are classics like Foxy Lady , and a few others of high merit surrounded by some ( by today's standards ) pedestrian playing .However , any listener will notice that this is an exemplary guitarist/singer with a couple of passengers .

Bought as gift for my 18 year old son. He absolutely loves it!

Excellent live performances at the BBC, a band that have obviously played hundreds of live shows together.Hendrix in fine form throughout.Well worth the price paid.

If you are a Hendrix fan ,especially i f you are on the wrong side of 55, you will love this .Loads of cracking performances,with some great nostalgic links from the likes of Alexis Corner and Brian Matthew. In short it captures a genius at the top of his game,thoroughly enjoying himself
