Game play removed, pieces ill-fitting.
Despite the description, this is not the classic game of Mouse Trap. If you are buying this for nostalgic purposes to play through with your own children, please take this into account. If you are used to the game play where you work towards building the elaborate mousetrap before racing and trying t lo catch each other, this game play no longer exists. Instead you build the entire trap before you even begin the game, then game play consists of collecting bits of cardboard cheese (first to six wins) and being caught in the trap only serves to lose you a piece of cheese. As you can lose pieces of cheese all over the board without springing the trap, you can finish a game without ever springing the trap. The game play lasts only a few minutes, and as the set-up isn’t part of the play it means it takes ages to set the game up only for a few minutes play.To add to this, the pieces don’t quite fit together. This is a huge shame as at first glance they looks so much bigger and more substantial than the older versions, but because they are imprecisely cast, the mechanism is really frustratingly bad. For example, the boot never, ever hits the stop sign on ours. I’m having to look for something to stick to the front to try and ‘build it up’ a bit as it won’t bend into place. Multiply this by a number of other poor fitting pieces and the experience is one of disappointment.
