Works OK with some tuning, static presence marginal
I compared this sensor with what I think is the gold standard for presence detection - the (expensive) 60GHz mmWave Radar Sensor Breathing & Heartbeat Module by Seeed Studio. The STHS34PF80 performed well for presence state changes after tuning the detection and hysteresis values, although the motion flag was rather random. However, once somebody was in the field of view without moving, it failed to detect presence. So for me it wasn't much better than a normal PIR sensor.
