After a number of different releases and years of touring, Montclair, New Jersey's Pinegrove have offered their finest work to date with their newest LP, Cardinal. The band's captivating blend of indie rock, pop and country elements is more vivid, fine-tuned, and addictive than ever before. Vocalist/guitarist Evan Stephens Hall along with brothers Zack Levine (drums) and Nick Levine (guitar) form a core that has been playing together since early childhood. Painting his emotions onto these songs with colorful and kinetic strokes, Hall moves through Cardinal's eight songs with unforgettable energy and passion, with a vocal performance that is pleasantly reminiscent of Will Oldham and Built to Spill's Doug Martsch. Highlighted by the downtrodden nostalgia of twangy opener "Old Friends" and the climactic refrain of "Size of the Moon," where the confession "I don't know what I'm afraid of," is just as much of a sing-a-long as it is an emotional breakdown, moods don't stay in one place for very long on Cardinal - they are carefully crafted and revisited throughout to continually evoke the album's central themes of memory, language, and home.

Great album
Pinegrove is one of my favorite modern bands, and Cardinal is an amazing album; clean production, insightful lyrics, and a very unique & eclectic sound. Definitely recommend!

Fantastic music from my new favorite group.
Pinegrove (and this album) tick all of my new music boxes - passionate delivery, great instrumentation (with the faintest breath of No Depression), and lyrics that are just obscure enough to draw me in. Preview the entire CD on You Tube. My only disappointment is that their show was sold out, so I didn't get to see them live this year.DON'T HESITATE! AMAZING CD!!

Album of 2016
I love this record. I listened to this record from its release date and I was happy to receive a 1st pressing of it from amazon after Run For Cover had sold out of them. The record I received was black. I would recommend ordering this record, but if you like a fancy color you may want to go straight to the source.

Great album
I bought this for my husband as a gift and he loves it. The quality is great, I've never had any issues ordering vinyl from Amazon.

The Real Deal - best of '16 so far
The best release of 2016 so far. It reminds me of some parts Spoon, some parts Avett Brothers, some parts The Men, some parts Toad the Wet Sprocket. Fantastic album. Additionally, I saw them live two nights ago and they were incredible. This band is the real deal and has a huge future.

Good stuff from from some fellow New Jerseyans
Good stuff from from some fellow New Jerseyans. A tad more emo and sincere than my usual taste but these guys pull it off. Smart lyrics, just the right mix of tight and ragged and the dude can sing. Fingers crossed that none of it finds its way into the next Zach Braff movie....

Pinegrove delivers! Great songs that really grow on you
Great songwriting and lyrics from Pinegrove - I just started listening to these guys recently and they're really an up and coming band to keep your eye on. This is a great album with every track delivering something worthwhile, meaningful and enjoyable to listen to. Its a mix of alt rock, with just a hint of blues, and a very subtle punk rock edge thrown in for good measure. I see this as a highly accessible album, that most will like upon first listen, and given time the songs grow on you thanks to some real subtlety and depth. Pick it up!
