From the Artist NOTE: There is a note in the set written by Joni Mitchell herself explaining the different song list (it was her mistake).

Amazing but at times Pretty unlistenable.
It's a beautiful package, the artwork and text is stunning and charming, but every time I try to listen to it, the flow of beauty is interrupted by such overloud and overproduced noise like Ray's Dad's Cadillac and Dancing Clown. I get that it's designed to tell a story, but her most beautiful work from the earlier albums is woefully underrepresented in favour of jarring noise. So every time I try to listen, I hit skip, skip, til I realise it's just not working for me.Edit: Decided to give this another go on hearing it’s soon to be reissued on vinyl and now I feel bad. Yes I still struggle with a couple of tracks that I think ruin the flow, but the rest is SUBLIME.

A work of astonishing beauty
First up these 2014 remasters are gorgeous. There are massive gains in clarity, depth, resonance- well everything really. The power range and nuances revealed in Joni’s voice are sublime. And I’ve realised now how brilliant she was in the studio - some of these adventures are revealed in the fascinating printed introduction she gives us. She sampled the sound of a cricket for Night Ride Home and used sounds from a cigarette slot machine in Car On The hill. Joni had some wild crazy ideas but she heard the sounds in her head and nothing could stop her search for perfection. Joni is a painter who creates such strong visual images in every song she writes. I remember when Blue came out way back in 1971 - there had never been anything like it - not before or since. Blue is a dark soulful masterpiece from an artist who defies definitions. I could barely wait for track 5 disk 1 Car On The Hill and when I heard the sound on that one I was whooping for joy. Tears have came on the many listenings I’ve treasured here. And with repeated listening the genius in the arranging of this program reveals itself. It’s often said that Joni is the greatest female singer/songwriter/performer of the 20th Century. On the basis of this set I’d say she was/is the greatest, most sublime artist ever.

I liked the way the tracks had been chosen to tell ...
I bought this exquisite compilation when it was first released. Although I have all of Joni's albums on both vinyl & cd, I liked the way the tracks had been chosen to tell a story. The packaging as with all Rhino releases is perfection. I loved it so much I bought a copy for a friend's special birthday. She loves it as much as I do.
