5ton log splitter
A little bigger than the original, but did just fit into to the capacitor panel box. Works great as it did when it was new. Harbor Freight 5 ton splitter

Worked for harbor freight log splitter but....
I purchased this capacitor for my newly bought harbor freight electric log splitter. So i started using the log splitter for the first time. At first i was not sure what to expect. I plugged the spliter into the outlet with an extention cord and the splitter would just humm. After a few tries the circuit would trip. So i decided to use the splitter with my generator, that way i know the generator produces plenty of power to power the splitter. Ok no more circuit trip, still some humming with no electric motor running.I did some research, and tried a few things. Like pushing the button until the motor created enough umph to start. That work for a bit but still this is not right. I should be able to push the button and the motor should start. So i checked to see if their was any binding of the electric motor and everthing seemed to spin freely. I also tried to use the splitter by removing the fan housing cover of the motor, pressing the button to start the motor and if the motor hummed i assisted the start of the motor by spining the fan in the correct rotation clockwise. I said enough this is not right. I took the splitter back to harbor freight spoke to the nice people there and plugged in the splitter at the store and of course...... the splitter works fine. I am not going to return it if it works fine. Ok back to the drawing board. So, i am left with I cant use my house outlet since i would need an extention cord so i can reach my pile of wood is that needs splitting. And my generator is not as strong enough i guess. So hear is where the capacitor comes in,I ordered and replaced the capacitor from amazon after doing some home work. The capacitor is the same micro filtron as what is in the splitter, 60. But higher voltage. It seemed to have helped with the start up of the motor but not entirely fixed the issue. There was still an ocasional humm and false starts. So if it help the issue get better then why not go bigger with the capacitor. I researched bigger capacitor but wanted an imediate fix. Solution, wire the capactors in series. So then after doing a bit more research i wire the two capacitors in series..... one inside the box of the motor, the other hanging out of the box.Booom problem solved, wood spliter works great. So for the cost of the electric spliter, this capacitor and a little wiring problem is solved.Just an FYI. I am not an electrician at all. Please practice safty first. Most of my knowledge was aquired on a short time with the help of the internet and reviews like this.

Excellent
Harbor freight electric splitter set for a year got it out and would not start. Motor was humming and killed my breaker to my house. Purchased this new capacitor hoping it would fix my issue and it did. Very pleased. Fast shipping and cheaper than other capacitors. Wired it back in and works just like it did the last time I used my splitter!

Fixed Harbor Freight log splitter
There are several other reviews of this capacitor for the Harbor Freight log splitter. Replaces the capacitor in the box on the side of the motor. It is larger than the original capacitor, but squeezes into the box. Cut wire to the old capacitor, attached with a couple of wire nuts, dressed with nylon ties, and got it working.

It works great
This unit was a little larger than the one that I replaced but I made it work and so far it has been satisfactory.
