Meh.
Kind of meanders a little. True crime has never been so... uh... true? I hesitate to say boring but... tedious at times. Also, this book was surprisingly hard to get.

The author took what should have been very interesting material and made it boring, like plowing through the minutes of a long board meeting. It was if he was more interested in making sure he made everything "fit" to prove his case, but totally ignored the human element by not telling us more about the personal, family dramas involved. More color, more personality, please, and less time with documentation.

Crazy good to a slow fizzle out under one Cover
Initially the book gathered my attention and I was riveted as the author took me to the killing grounds and explained the process of the executions. However, from that point on the book slowly languished and by the end I was feeling a little massacred myself.

Confusing, but understandable as I've never lived in a Country where this could happen.
A very confusing book, but confusing because it is hard to imagine living in a Country where people are treated like this under the guide of rule of law.

CRIME FICTION? NO ITS TRUE!
An immensely readable piece of history from the 1950's, which on reflection has a surprising relevance to modern times. We are left asking ourselves- has society progressed at all?I couldn't wait to turn the page!

Value for money book. Hard to believe that people are being killed, just for doing the right thing.

Chilling commentary
This is a chilling statement about how military dictatorships operate, and is a message that all of us should take seriously. Written with compassion, and with a dogged devotion to research and good journalism. The notes accompanying Walsh's narrative are very helpful. Overall, a compelling book. Each participant takes on a particular character, and the reader feels very much part of their lives (and deaths, in the case of several). Essential reading for anyone who wants to understand how Latin America has worked in the past, and hopefully never again in the future.
