Category A radios, however have two separate receivers, with one constantly tuned to channel 70. Category A radios are therefore more flexible and capable of delivering advanced communication capabilities.With the press of a button, all DSC equipped VHF radios can send a distress call in digital form on channel 70. The call, sent in much less than one second, includes your unique identification number (MMSI) and if the radio is connected to a GPS or Loran C, the precise location of your boat. The distress call will continue to be sent until it is answered by another station. The station hearing the call will likely call your radio on channel 16 or, in the case of the Coast Guard on 22A and begin the process of bringing you the help you need. Having a highly automatic way of making your need for assistance known has obvious advantages.

Q: How do i activate my radio

Go to https://www.boatus.com/MMSI/MMSI/Home and register for an MMSI number. Once the MMSI number has been obtained it must be entered into the radio. Push the "CALL/SET" to enter the DSC menu then look for the MMSI entry option. Follow the prompts.

Not very informative on the GPS portion of this Radio

Trying to get this Radio to work with a GPS Antenna, but the Positive and Negative Plugin Cable that came with the Radio will not go into the insert plug on back the Transceiver -- its like there is a Spring in there and i do not want to mess anything up forcing it. And all the Antennas i seen require some amount of voltage to make the Antenna work with the GPS portion.Also this Radio while in the SCAN mode stops on channel 82, until i turn the Squelch all the way clockwise. I believe its something internal wrong cause it also does it with or without the Antenna connected. Any help would be appreciated.... so far i give it 1 Star....
