McDavidLight Shoulder Support

I bought both the McDavid 463 and the Shock Doctor shoulder support. Even though the McDavid costs less, I must say that it fits and feels more comfortable than the Shock Doctor. I really wanted both to work to support my shoulder and alleviate the pain I feel from performing simple chores. My thought was that I would use both for different tasks. It appeared that the Shock Doctor was more heavy duty, so I would wear it when lifting, working with power tools, or anything more strenuous than light work around the house. The McDavid, I thought, would be perfect for continuous wear while doing normal things during everyday activity - it would give me support and compression to assist my shoulder from taking the full stress of normal motion. And it does just that. In fact, it feels so comfortable and is so easy to put on, that I returned the Shock Doctor. For the money, the McDavid is an excellent product that works and suits me perfectly. At the end of the day, my shoulder feels much better for having worn their shoulder support.I'm not knocking the Shock Doctor. It is well built. Once you get past the confusion of all the straps and where they go and how you reach them, it's quite a good product. The problem is their sizing chart is not accurate and so the L/XL was much too loose to accomplish the desired effect (see my full review under the Shock Doctor Shoulder Support).

This product is for the everyday person with light shoulder pain. It is great for everyday work like home repairs, lawn care, and even working out. I have used multiply shoulder braces after separating my right shoulder. This brace has been by far the best one I have used yet.It is comfortable, durable, and has many straps for adjustment to maximize comfort. It has three different straps that you can adjust. First is around your chest to bring your shoulder tighter to your body. Then the two straps on top of your shoulder to bring it down; and lastly is the strap that wraps around your bicep. These straps help limit your mobility too, so you can worry less about over exerting your shoulder and possibly re injuring it. It also is reversible, so you can use it for your left or right shoulder. The material is smooth and breathable, so it doesn't give you a big red rash after your down using it. Also with the breath ability it doesn't smell terrible after your done working in it.Make sure you know what size you are or else it won’t work to its full capability, It also maybe uncomfortable if it is too small or too big. This does not fix or get rid of you shoulder pain. It only helps support and take the stress off your shoulder. I would highly recommend this shoulder brace to anyone who has dislocated or separated their shoulder before and has chronic pain.This product is a five star product in my eyes. It is affordable and is very helpful in reducing shoulder pain and helping you to a speedy recovery.

I bought this shoulder support February 2010 to reduce shoulder pain from torn infraspinatus / supraspinatus tendons that are not completely attached to my shoulder blade. I sustained this injury 9 year ago. The pain comes and goes depending on how active I am. I am a massage therapist and yoga teacher, so I am fairly active. When the pain returns, it is a continuous ache that radiates from my shoulder to my wrist. It is not excruciating, just physically limiting and very annoying. The neoprene keeps the shoulder muscles warm and sweaty. After wearing the support day & night for 2 or 3 days, my pain goes away. I've used the shoulder support 3 different times with consistent results. It's been 3 months since I've needed to use it, but I keep it somewhere easy to find just in case.This harness was designed for a man or a flat chested person, I'm neither. I could not find one designed for a woman. So I had to rig an extender to loop the strap that goes under the armpit to go under one breast and up the center of my chest to meet the velcro on the opposite side.The size I choice fits snug but not too tight. The material is thin and flexible enough to use under most blouses without being obvious. I wore it under my clothes while at work on both my jobs and no one noticed.I am pleased with the results. Its therapeutic value to me is definitely a 5. Because of the inadequate strap, I'm rating it a 4.
