They add around 3.5 inches, if I understand your question correctly.

No they do not. There is a hex shaped post on the top half that fits into a hex shaped opening in the bottom half. Once interlocked, the two halves do not turn independently. That is the point.

Q: Does this also work with 1/4 Inch Female adapter?

The mic stand connection is 5/8" female. As long as your adapters mate up to that, it should work. You may want to check out K&M products -- they do more in the 1/4" realm.
