great profesonal grinder
I use it to make metal art & I grind a lot welds. I use it all most every day I have other Makita tools & they are great . I think it is a bit on the heavy side but well balanced so no big deal. I love the no extyra safety features. I can just grab it & hit the little "trigger" that allows me to press the paddle I'm grinding. It is the smoothest one of all my grinders & very powerful. It does not kick out of my hand when I start it up, like my Milwaukee . I have run it for a full hour doing a rush job & it never got hot I also have a Metabo. I burnt one up in under a year they are so expensive to fix I just chucked it I can get the Makita fixed for around $65 to $80 after warranty time, I can fix it locally,& not have to wait forever to get it back. I can't tell you about the longevity of the tool as I've only had it for a month. The Milwaukee lasted three years but they changed the " safety trigger . this change I'm sure is because of whiners amatures , & to protec theirselves. I am neither, so I appreciate the Makita co. not going over board with buttons , extra switches ect just to start the thing. OK one thing you may not like , & will have to get used to . When you take your hand off the paddle to shut it down, as the unit is slowing down, if you apply pressure to the paddle again , I mean right away before it stops , it will take a second or two for the motor to catch & start running at full capacity. If your into assembly line, fast , fast grinding you may want to think about another model. I have just learned to keep my hand on the paddle, & let it run, while I flip the piece I'm grinding over. It has a nice long cord & it doesn't tangle as much as the other grinders. ( The Metabo cord is the worse one ever) The disk change button is in the right place as is the handle

Received this August 6th, 2024. Now broken
I got this August 6,2024. It is now October 22,2024. It no longer starts up at all. Power source is fine, grinder is the issue. I expect a grinder that costs this much to last longer than my cheap harbor freight grinder.

Much better than the comparable Makita cordless model.
I have both this CORDED Makita 9564PC angle grinder and the similar Makita CORDLESS angle grinder BGA452. As a homeowner/DIY’er, I bought the cordless model first, mostly for use as a cutoff too. But when I found it to be more useful than I had expected, I decided to get the corded one too. And I found the CORDLESS model tends to shut off when over stressed, perhaps because of its much low power (c. 3 amps) or my unsteady hand, and its small on/off switch is more difficult to use. With the CORDED model the convenient paddle switch & added power (13 amps) makes jobs much easier than with the cordless one, and it is my preferred model. Both weigh about the same, although the corded one is a little longer, and both have the same size arbor (5/8-inch) & cutting wheels (4.5-inch).For serious use the corded model is the way to go. For even heavier work you may want a model that uses larger diameter grinding/cutoff wheels. If you do go for a Makita cordless model, be sure to get one of the newer models that use the newer Star Protection batteries. There is also a variable speed version of this tool, Makita # 9564PCV, which is also a corded model.

Well built and powerful.
So far this grinder is a beast, it is definitely not short on power. It has taken a little getting use to the delayed start up that it has. This is necessary due to the amount of torque it generates (15 amp motor) and it would be outright dangerous without it. It is slightly longer and heavier then other 4 1/2" grinders which are typically in the 7 amp range. This causes one handed operation to be more cumbersome, but I purchased it for heavier grinding applications anyway. I have used all types and brands of grinders over the years and prefer Makita as my first choice.

Living the Legend - Makita 9564PC 4-1/2-Inch Angle Grinder
My last often used and sometimes abused grinder finally died after years of service. So I read reviews until my eyes bled. I was looking for a "made in the USA" tool but those are very rare indeed. This grinder is a bit heavier than my last one but is much more powerful and less noisy. The paddle switch is simply great ergonomically. There is a small toggle that keeps it from activating accidentally; a great safety feature. And speaking of safety, the blade shield has a quick release which allows the shield to be rotated quickly for optimal positioning for any situation. The only reason I gave this tool a five star rating is because they don't have a six star rating.
