WAY BETTER than the manual solder sucker
I restored one vintage audio receiver with a solder sucker and that was not fun. I broke down and paid up for this station and it makes a difficult job easy and fun. I'm on my third vintage receiver restoration in 3 months and so far so good. So satisfying to see the solder disappear and pull the capacitor out in a matter of seconds. heat is set at 765F for 50 year old solder. work quickly and you wont pull up any traces. Suction is good, better than I expected, no complaints about that. The Ceramic filter in the gun gets pretty dirty quickly. It comes with some, but you will need to get extras. Not sure how long the tip will last, I use the largest one. Need to find a back up for that, I haven't seen a replacement advertised. Now my criticisms, It takes a little time to warm up, It starts and stops a couple time on a cold start-up, hope this is not an indication of a problem developing, once it gets going it seem fine. the glass vial is difficult to remove, It's fine for now but you have to apply a lot of force to squeeze it out of the handle. All in all I'm very happy with this, hopefully it lasts a long time

Solid and so far very reliable
I've been using this for a couple months now and it's great. It's my first vacuum powered desoldering device so I can't directly compare it to anything, but it does the job and does it well. It heats up quickly, has strong vacuum and pulls away the solder easily.Update: May 2019I've been using this de-soldering station for just about a year now and I'm still very happy with it. I've probably collectively removed about half a pound of solder with it. I haven't exactly been treating it with kit gloves either. (Honestly I've been much harder on it than I should). There were a couple of spots where I let it go too long before cleaning the catch tube and allowed the filter pad to clog, and a couple of mishaps where the shaft was clogged at the catch tube with skunky half-century old solder because I didn't swab it out with the provided cleaning rods in time - this is really my fault. The shaft can't (and shouldn't) get hot enough to melt solder at the catch tube end, but its entirely fixable. If this happens to you just shut the gun off, remove the catch tube, push one of the cleaning rods into the shaft and press while you heat the catch tube end with another soldering iron - after a few seconds the stuck solder should loosen and push out the old solder.Replacement tips and filter pads have been easy to get. After a year the gun still heats up quickly, the vacuum is still strong (despite the fact that I allowed it to get clogged numerous times). It DOES get clogged sometimes but not if you make a point to clean the catch tube after heavy use and use the cleaning rods each time before you put the gun back in its holder.

Product is Great as a low volume rework station.
I have used many of desoldering stations. I had seem many of the reviews from others using the product and noted some of the shortcomings mentioned. Most of these sounded like people who had not had the advantage of being propperly trained on the use of the tools. I have now done several IC replacements with the tool and have had no issues at all. Follow propper operational guide lines as listed and you will find the product will give you a good run for your purchase.1) Make sure you have the correct level of heat for the product you are removing. (Not all solders are created equal.) Too cold the solder will cool in the tube before it has cleared. Too hot you will run the chance of causing board damage.2) Upon the completion of clearing the hole allow the pump to run for a couple seconds after lifted away from the work. This will allow any thing left in the hot end tube to be drawn into the refuse collection tube.3) After every 10 pulls/desolder run the cleaner in the tun=be followed by a 4 second free air run of the suction pump. Cleaning leaves the cleared dislodged filings and blobs in the tube you need to evacuate them from the hot end.4) Propper warm up times should be observered before operation of the unit. The hot end may be up to temp but the body of the tube may not. PUlling solder throught a poorly heated tube will surely pug that tube.5) Limmit long stand by times. Allowing the unit to sit for long periods of times inactive allows for carbon and burnt solder flux to cook into the tube. If you get this build up in the tube and then you use it, it will surely plug the tube. Over time this will reduce the useful operstion time of the unit. These are the same operation procedures we had to implement with much more expensive gear.

Works fine for the actual soldering part.Construction of the actual gun is blatantly cheap. The tube is very hard to remove and nearly impossible to put back in. Had to sand down the black part then twist the whole back section to the side so i could finally wiggle it in. Took 30 minutes to figure that out and managed to tear up the filter while i forced it in. Thank god they lied about the tube being glass or it probably would have shattered and cut me pretty bad during that. And the holster is probably the worst possible holder they could have made. Its not just bad its downright dangerous. You tap it wrong and the gun will fall out and BACK AT YOU. Not only that but it ONLY supports putting the holder on the right of the machine. You cant set it anywhere else or it will just fall over. Which is a big downside if this has other things next to it like for me.Temp controls only increment by 1 each press, so setting the temp the first time requires 300+ presses.

Important replacement parts non-existent.
Let me start off with saying this thing is amazing while it works... With that said though I have had the power supply for mine fail and the power supplies are impossible to find if you need to replace one. I found a single polish website that sells them but then that adds the issue of international shipping to the cost and hassle to replace the power supply.Due to this failure I am going to be forced to step away from this machine.
