Good Converter (VGA to HDMI)
Works very well when your old model desktop doesn't have HDMI port to monitor.

Worked to connect a touch-screen drawing tablet when other adapters failed
I tried using a no-name, inexpensive VGA to HDMI adapter to connect an LCD touch / pressure sensitive drawing tablet to an older laptop that only had VGA output, but it didn't work. Part of the signal came through, but the V-sync was off and picture scrambled. With this StarTech adapter, it worked great right out of the box at full resolution. Well worth the price.

Second time's a charm!
I needed to convert the (optimal) 1280x800 output from my Dell Latitude E4200 to HDMI for presentations. I initially purchased a cheaper SYBA IO Crest (SY-ADA31025) unit from Amazon, which was described as supporting this resolution. That adapter did an "OK" job at lower resolutions, but at 1280x800, the screen displayed a "No signal" message on each of the output devices I tried. I arranged for a (pain-free) return and refund with Amazon. I then chatted with "Keith" at StarTech who assured me that this device (StarTech VGA2HDU) would do the trick, so I went back to Amazon and ordered one. I just plugged it in, and it works like a charm! My grandson is watching children's programming on YouTube as I type this. Picture and sound are flawless; no jitter, streaks or freezes. Highly recommended! Thanks, Keith. Thanks, StarTech. Thanks, Amazon!

Very good picture and sound quality, but no sound volume control in Win10
I use this adapter to connect an older laptop to a 1080p TV, using the computer mainly as a media player. The adapter has a great 1080p picture quality. It's also very convenient that it acts as a USB sound card and automatically sends sound through HDMI.The big problem (with sound) is however that Windows 10 sound volume control does not work with the chip used in the adapter (one of C-media chips). This might be a deal breaker if you use your computer as a media player, since this means you can't simply change volume or mute the sounds from your wireless keyboard -- you have to do that using your TV remote. Finally, not the fault of the adapter, but note that because VGA output is analogue and therefore not HDCP compatible you can't play some copyrighted content in HD or at all (Amazon Prime allows playing only in "Standard Resolution" and Netflix, I believe, doesn't let you play anything at all).

then it passes the signal through and the quality is great. HOWEVER
It works well WITH ONE MAJOR EXCEPTION.If you're sending it "normal" resolutions - 800x600, 1024x768, 1680x1050, 720p, etc. then it passes the signal through and the quality is great.HOWEVER, if you connect it to a PC, the 720x400 plain text mode used in the BIOS *will not* pass through the adapter. This ruins it for me because I was hoping to use the adapter with my HDMI KVM switch to attach older non-HDMI and non-DVI PCs to my KVM. Not having the 720x400 mode work means I can't access the BIOS, read diagnostic messages or anything similar. HDMI obviously can use the 720x400 mode as my HDMI-based machines can send it to my KVM switch (and my monitor identifies it as 720x400), so not sure why this adapter chooses not to pass that mode through. This does work well for, say, older Macs, but pretty much every Mac I can think of manufactured in the past 12 years can output DVI at least. It may also have use for some non-computer device that outputs VGA.The USB soundcard that sends it output into the HDMI audio is a nice touch and works well, but it can be mildly frustrating if you're not aware this feature exists, as your PC may decide to switch to the HDMI output on the adapter for audio.

Adapter Worked Perfectly!
After reading many reviews of this product and other similar products, I figured my chances of it working perfectly were very low. The item arrived before promised, and plug & played within minutes. Everything configured itself connecting my old home desktop with VGA output to a new digital TV with HDMI. Sound from the TV is better than the old speakers used with the VGA monitor. Dont forget to purchase a male to male HDMI cable, its needed to connect the item to the HDMI connector on the TV. I saw where the factory actually helped folks when there was an issue, that"s another reason I chose this item over others. That type of service is hard to find nowadays!

Perfect!
Works perfectly! The additional USB-a extension was a thoughtful touch.

Extremely versatile, even supports sound
Works well with headless Linux machines that only have a VGA output on the motherboard. This device is for systems that are connecting to a monitor with HDMI inputs (i.e. analog -> digital). Incidentally, the USB "power" plug appears as a C-Media USB sound card, and audio from the computer works immediately. A huge improvement over lugging a VGA-capable monitor around for these configurations.
